The Unity Temple Restoration Foundation (UTRF), which has been in existence since 1973, serves as the instrument of the easement on behalf of Landmarks Illinois.

At the time it was established, this corporate relationship - a secular private non-profit (UTRF) and a religious community (UTUUC) working together to preserve an important cultural property–was unique in the United States. Two decades later, it’s serving as a model for other organizations seeking to engage in this kind of relationship and the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation has shared their knowledge and legal framework with no less than four other sites, including three churches.
