About the Foundation

With the approach of the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Unity Temple, the Unity Temple Restoration Foundation has recognized the need to plan for the complete restoration of the building. This led to the commissioning of this study to serve as the roadmap for the restoration. The focus of the Preservation Master Plan has been on the work that will be required to return the interior of Unity Temple to its original condition and configuration when it was officially opened in 1909. There is also a need to make improvement to the building’s mechanical systems to not only improve the comfort of the congregation and the thousands of people who visit every year, but to help ensure the long term preservation of the building fabric itself.

As the UTRF embarks on this major undertaking of the full restoration of Unity Temple, it is heartening to know that they will not only have the full support of the congregation but that of dozens of interested organizations and hundreds of individuals who see the importance of this great work by America’s greatest architect of the twentieth Century.
