Frank Lloyd Wright

Unity Temple was most certainly informed and affected by the architect’s love of Japanese culture, art and architecture.

Wright returned from his first visit to Japan just months before the original church burned. The influence of this trip can be seen in the building’s floor plan, which is similar to Shinto temples, and in the use of wood banding, cube lights and "light screens" throughout the building.

In fact, Unity Temple is considered to be one of Wright’s most Japanese-influenced designs by Japanese historians.
