A vital part of the UTRF mission is using the building as a conduit to inform and educate young people. Unity Temple is a one-of-a-kind laboratory for learning about art, architecture, science, math and language.
Unity Temple as Classroom
School groups encouraged to tour Unity Temple’s interconnected spaces with the assistance of our tour guides. Emphasis is placed on the masterful interplay of void and solid, plane and volume. Contact us about a group tour.
Froebel Block Workshops
A Froebel Block Workshop is a one hour exercise working with the different "Froebel Gifts". Gifts 2-6 are made up of different shapes and sizes of solid maple blocks that fit into larger hardwood boxes. These blocks are played with on a grid and use visual guides to help build different geometric designs and patterns. The Froebel Gifts are designed to stimulate all five senses, build language skills, and to help children perceive the unity and interconnectedness of all things: art (beauty), math (abstract knowledge) and nature (the physical world).
These workshops are led by trained volunteers that guide groups of all ages, kindergarten to adult, through many Froebel exercises at work tables in Unity House, the social hall of Unity Temple. Workshops can be arranged for any age group, and can be done in conjunction with a guided tour of Unity Temple. If you are interested in setting up a tour of Unity Temple and/or Froebel Block Workshop, please call 708.383.8873, fax 708.383.7473 or e-mail us at: info@utrf.org. We will be happy to help customize your group visit to Oak Park and Unity Temple. Workshops can accommodate up to 25 participants. Each workshop is $100.00.
